Nexans was awarded the Greek 111 million high voltage submarine AC cable contract

The Greek Kiklardi Islands Interconnection Project aims to ensure reliable, economical and adequate power supply to Syros, Paros, Tinos, Mykonos and Naxo in Syros, Paros, Tinos, Mikonos and Naxos. With the complex three-stage project entering its final "C" phase, independent power transmission operator ADMIE has signed a new contract with Nexans worth about 111 million euros to provide the cable and related services needed for the project.

The Kiklardi Islands Interconnection Project aims to ensure a reliable electricity supply for the Kiklardi Islands while addressing local environmental problems. By linking the Kiklardi Islands, ADMIE seeks to reduce the number of existing power stations using heavy fuel oil and light fuel oil (diesel) and to create the necessary infrastructure for harnessing the region's important renewable energy potential.

The complete turnkey contract awarded to Nexans during the "C" phase of the project includes submarine survey, design, manufacture, installation and protection of 150 KV AC three-core submarine power cables and internal optical fiber components. The total length of the route is 108 kilometers and the maximum water depth is expected to be 300 meters.

The submarine cables for the project will be manufactured by Nexan's Halden plant in Norway, while the optical fibre cables will be manufactured at a specialist factory in Rognan, Norway. Through the advanced cable laying ship Nexans Skagerrak, interconnected cables will be installed at depths up to 300 meters.

According to reports, Nexan's other projects in the Mediterranean include the Malta-Sicily Submarine Interconnection Project, the Italian-Montenegro Submarine Interconnection Project and the Spanish-Mallorca Submarine Interconnection Project.

According to the plan, the delivery and commissioning of Kiklardi Islands interconnection will be completed in August 2020.
